Thanks to Peter Dane for this GREAT article. The girl surfing in the photo is Marge Calhoun, who used to live near the Barrington Playground in Brentwood, before they built so many apartments. Marge was the Women's Surfing Champion at Makaha Beach, Hawaii, in 1954, which was the World Championship back then.
Sorry the scanning job isn't too great ... guess I need a new scanner or it needs a new operator!! ;-)
The guide to the "diving location" in Palos Verdes is from about 1957. Mel Fisher later moved to Florida and became famous for finding the sunken Spanish Gallons.
